Getting from Agathonisi to Syros

If you are heading to Syros from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the capital of the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has a neoclassical port city of grand mansions and an opera house modelled on La Scala.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Syros. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Syros ferry, which takes around 2 hours on the fast boat with up to 6 daily crossings in summer.

Getting there by air

Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Syros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. However flights to Syros are limited so the ferry from Piraeus is often more practical.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Syros. At around 2 hours on the fast boat it is one of the quickest Cyclades connections from Athens. If you are travelling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle directly to Ermoupolis.
