Getting from Agistri to Hydra

If you are heading to Hydra from Agistri you are making a straightforward hop to a neighbouring island in the Saronic Gulf, one of the most immediately compelling islands in Greece. It is car-free with elegant stone mansions, exceptionally clear water and a quality of silence unlike anywhere else within easy reach of Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Hydra. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Hydra ferry, which runs up to 12 daily crossings and takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours. Alternatively, take the ferry from Agistri to Aegina and then connect via Poros to Hydra, though this involves more changes and takes longer.

Getting there by air

Hydra has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. The ferry via Piraeus is the only realistic option for this route.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Hydra ferry. It is the most direct and practical approach. The arrival into Hydra port, with the mansions rising above the waterfront and the donkeys waiting on the quayside, is one of the best in Greece. Note that Hydra is car-free so no vehicles can be taken to the island.
