Getting from Agistri to Kefalonia

If you are heading to Kefalonia from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to the largest of the Ionian islands, on the opposite side of Greece. It is mountainous with dramatic cliffs, turquoise bays and some of the finest beaches in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Kefalonia and no ferry from Athens to Kefalonia either. Getting there by ferry means taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Kyllini on the western Peloponnese for the ferry to Kefalonia, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and runs up to 4 daily crossings. Alternatively, drive to Patras and take the ferry from there to Sami, which takes around 3.5 hours.

Getting there by air

Kefalonia has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Kefalonia takes around 45 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours and is the most practical approach for most travelers.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and fly to Kefalonia via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Agistri already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive to Kyllini for the ferry across to Kefalonia, which at around 1 hour 30 minutes is the shortest mainland to Kefalonia connection.
