Getting from Alexandroupoli to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to a Venetian-built harbour town on the Epirus coast, on the opposite side of northern Greece. It faces the Ionian Sea with good beaches and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry connection between Alexandroupoli and Parga. Parga is a mainland coastal town with no connection to the northeastern Aegean ferry network. Getting there means traveling entirely by road or a combination of road and air across northern Greece.

Getting there by air

Parga has no airport. The nearest airports are Preveza, around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina, around 103 kilometres east. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Ioannina via Athens, followed by a bus or taxi to Parga taking around 1.5 hours, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Alternatively, fly to Preveza via Athens and take a taxi or bus to Parga, which takes around 1 hour.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Preveza via Athens and take a taxi or bus to Parga. It is the most practical approach. The drive from Alexandroupoli to Parga via the Egnatia motorway takes around 5.5 to 6 hours and is a good option if you are traveling with a car, crossing the full breadth of northern Greece along one of the finest motorways in the country.
