Getting from Alonissos to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Alonissos you are making your way from the most remote of the Sporades group to one of the most remote islands in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. The two islands are as far apart in character as they are in geography and the journey requires going through Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alonissos to Agathonisi. The two islands are in completely different island groups with no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then flying to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 1 to 2 hours. The ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos takes around 1 to 2 hours with daily departures in summer.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Alonissos has no airport either. The nearest airport is Skiathos. Taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, fly to Athens and then fly to Leros or Samos and take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Check the ferry schedule before booking your flights as the service to Agathonisi runs a limited number of times per week. Give yourself at least a full day of travel and build flexibility into your plans.
