Getting from Alonissos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Alonissos you are making your way from the most remote of the Sporades group to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.

There is no direct ferry from Alonissos to Piraeus. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Alonissos to Volos or Mantoudi, which takes around 2 to 5 hours depending on the vessel and port, and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Athens, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Volos and around 2.5 hours from Mantoudi. The total journey by ferry and road takes around 5 to 8 hours.

Getting there by air

Alonissos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with daily connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, which takes around 1 to 2 hours, and then flying to Athens takes around 30 minutes in the air. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours and is the most practical approach for most travelers.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos and fly to Athens. It is the fastest approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Alonissos to Volos and drive to Athens via the E75 motorway, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Volos.
