Getting from Anafi to Alexandroupoli

If you are heading to Alexandroupoli from Anafi you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in the Cyclades to the far northeastern corner of Greece, a city on the Thracian coast close to the Turkish border and the gateway to Samothrace.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Anafi to Alexandroupoli. Alexandroupoli's ferry connections are limited to Samothrace, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios and Lavrio. Getting there means taking the ferry from Anafi to Santorini, flying to Athens and then flying to Alexandroupoli, or taking the overnight ferry from Anafi to Piraeus and driving northeast via the Egnatia motorway, which takes around 8 to 9 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Alexandroupoli has its own airport with connections from Athens. Anafi has no airport. Taking the ferry from Anafi to Santorini, flying to Athens and then Athens to Alexandroupoli takes around 1 hour 10 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Anafi to Santorini, fly to Athens and then fly to Alexandroupoli. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are planning to visit Samothrace from Alexandroupoli, ferries to the island depart daily in summer and the trip takes around 1 hour 45 minutes. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Anafi to Piraeus and drive northeast via the Egnatia motorway to Alexandroupoli.
