Getting from Anafi to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Anafi you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in the Cyclades to the most eastern of the group, a relatively short hop to the northeast. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

 

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Anafi to Amorgos running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Express Skopelitis routes. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes around 3 to 6 hours depending on the vessel and stops. It is one of the most natural connections from Anafi and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation as the road between them takes around 30 minutes.

 

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Anafi has no airport either. The ferry connection is considerably more practical than flying for this Cyclades hop given the direct sea routes available.

 

Your best option

Take the direct seasonal ferry from Anafi to Amorgos. It is the most natural and enjoyable connection and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. Check the schedule before planning around it as the frequency varies by season. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm.
