Getting from Anafi to Folegandros

If you are heading to Folegandros from Anafi you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in the Cyclades to a small clifftop island in the southern part of the group, a relatively short hop to the northwest. It has a Chora perched on the edge of a sheer drop above the sea and an atmosphere of genuine calm.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Anafi to Folegandros running in summer on the wider Cyclades route. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes around 2 to 4 hours depending on the vessel and stops. Alternatively, take the ferry from Anafi to Santorini and then the short ferry from Santorini to Folegandros, which takes around 45 to 50 minutes and runs several times daily in summer.

Getting there by air

Folegandros has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Anafi has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Anafi to Santorini and then the short ferry to Folegandros is considerably more practical than flying for this Cyclades connection. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct seasonal ferry from Anafi to Folegandros when the schedule works for your dates. It keeps the journey within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. If the direct service does not align, take the ferry from Anafi to Santorini and cross to Folegandros from there. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Anafi to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Folegandros ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
