Getting from Andros to Aegina

If you are heading to Aegina from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the closest major island to Athens, in the Saronic Gulf. It has the best preserved ancient Greek temple in the country at Afaia, a thriving pistachio industry and a waterfront that fills up with Athenians every weekend.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Andros to Aegina. Getting there means taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, which runs up to 11 times daily and takes around 1 to 2 hours, making your way to Piraeus and then boarding the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Aegina, which takes around 40 minutes on the fast boat and around 1 hour 20 minutes on the conventional ferry, with over 40 daily departures in summer.

Getting there by air

Aegina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Aegina gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, make your way to Piraeus and board the Saronic ferry to Aegina. With over 40 daily departures in summer you never need to book the Piraeus to Aegina connection in advance. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Andros already puts you at Rafina with your vehicle, then drive to Piraeus for the conventional ferry across to Aegina.
