Getting from Andros to Kythnos

If you are heading to Kythnos from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to an island in the western part of the group. It has over 60 beaches and a medieval village at Driopida that hardly anyone outside Greece knows about.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Andros to Kythnos running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes. The journey takes around 4 to 7 hours with stops along the way through Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos and Syros. Kythnos is also served from Lavrio, around 30 minutes from Athens Airport, with up to 5 daily departures in summer taking around 1 hour 10 minutes. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina and then a taxi to Lavrio for the ferry to Kythnos is a very practical combination.

Getting there by air

Kythnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, taking a taxi to Lavrio and then the ferry to Kythnos gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours without flying at all. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina and take a taxi to Lavrio for the ferry across to Kythnos. The proximity of Rafina to Lavrio via the coastal road makes this one of the most practical island to island connections in the Cyclades without going through Athens at all. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Andros already puts you at Rafina with your vehicle, then drive to Lavrio for the ferry across to Kythnos.
