Getting from Andros to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the third ferry port serving Athens, on the southeastern tip of Attica around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is an occasional direct seasonal ferry connection from Andros to Lavrio running in summer. The more practical and frequent approach is to take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, which runs up to 11 times daily and takes around 1 to 2 hours, and then take a taxi directly to Lavrio from Rafina, which takes around 25 to 30 minutes along the coastal road and covers around 25 kilometres.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 30 kilometres to the northwest. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina and then a taxi to Lavrio gives a total journey time of around 2 to 3 hours without flying at all.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina and take a taxi directly to Lavrio. At around 25 to 30 minutes from Rafina along the coastal road it is one of the most convenient connections in Attica and avoids Athens entirely. If you are heading to Kea or Kythnos from Lavrio, ferries to both islands run frequently throughout the day in summer. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Andros already puts you at Rafina with your vehicle, then drive south to Lavrio.
