Getting from Andros to Rafina

If you are heading to Rafina from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the second most important ferry port serving Athens, on the northeastern Attica coast around 20 kilometres from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos and several northern Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

The Andros to Rafina ferry is the main connection from the island to the mainland, running up to 11 times daily in summer and year-round with fewer departures in winter. The conventional ferry takes around 2 hours and the fast catamaran takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. Ferries depart from Gavrio port on Andros and arrive directly at Rafina port, which is just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. Rafina has no airport either. The ferry is the only option and at under 2 hours on the conventional vessel and just over 1 hour on the fast catamaran it is one of the most effortless island to port connections in Greece.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Andros to Rafina. With up to 11 daily departures in summer you can turn up at Gavrio port, buy a ticket and be in Rafina within the hour. From Rafina a short taxi or bus ride takes you directly to Athens Airport in around 20 to 25 minutes. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to Rafina port.
