Getting from Andros to Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the most iconic island in the group, at the southern end of the Aegean. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiri preserved under volcanic ash.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Andros to Santorini running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes that connect the northern and southern Cyclades. The journey takes around 7 to 10 hours with stops along the way through Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and arriving into the caldera by sea is one of the great island arrivals in Greece. Alternatively, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, make your way to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which runs up to 9 daily departures in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours.

Getting there by air

Santorini has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Andros has no airport. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then Athens to Santorini takes around 45 to 55 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, fly to Athens and then fly to Santorini. It is the fastest approach. If you want the sea arrival into the caldera, take the direct seasonal ferry from Andros when the schedule works for your dates. Book well ahead in July and August as Santorini flight and ferry spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, drive to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Athinios port.
