Getting from Andros to Sikinos

If you are heading to Sikinos from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to one of the lesser talked about islands in the group, in the southern part of the Aegean. It has a Chora perched on a ridge above the port and an atmosphere of genuine calm that sets it apart from its more visited neighbours.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Andros to Sikinos. The two islands are at opposite ends of the Cyclades with no direct sea connection. The most practical approach is to take the ferry from Andros to Piraeus via Rafina, which runs multiple times daily and takes around 1 to 2 hours to Rafina, and then board the Piraeus to Sikinos ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 8 to 10 hours. Alternatively, take the ferry from Andros south through Tinos, Mykonos, Paros or Naxos and then connect to Sikinos, which can be reached in around 25 minutes from Ios or around 40 minutes from Folegandros.

Getting there by air

Sikinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then flying to Santorini, followed by the short ferry from Santorini to Sikinos, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, fly to Athens and then fly to Santorini and take the short ferry across to Sikinos. It is the most time efficient approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, drive to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sikinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
