Getting from Andros to Skiathos

If you are heading to Skiathos from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the most cosmopolitan of the Sporades group, in the northern Aegean. It has a lush green coastline, an international airport and some of the finest sandy beaches in the northern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Andros to Skiathos. Getting there means taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, which runs up to 11 times daily and takes around 1 to 2 hours, and then traveling by road to Volos or Mantoudi in northern Evia for the ferry to Skiathos. From Mantoudi the crossing takes around 1 hour 15 minutes and from Volos around 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours. Mantoudi is around 2 hours from Rafina by road, making this a practical combination that avoids central Athens entirely.

Getting there by air

Skiathos has its own international airport with daily connections from Athens. Andros has no airport. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Rafina and drive to Mantoudi for the ferry across to Skiathos. At around 2 hours from Rafina to Mantoudi it is a practical route that avoids Athens entirely. If you prefer to fly, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, fly to Athens and then fly to Skiathos. If you are traveling with a car, the Mantoudi to Skiathos ferry takes your vehicle directly to the island.
