Getting from Andros to Syros

If you are heading to Syros from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the capital of the group, just a short hop to the southwest. It has a neoclassical port city of grand mansions and an opera house modelled on La Scala that is one of the most distinctive urban environments in the Greek islands.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Andros to Syros running 1 to 2 times a week year-round, taking around 3 hours. In summer additional seasonal services may operate. The more frequent alternative is to take the ferry from Andros south to Tinos and then connect to Syros from Tinos, which takes around 30 to 45 minutes and runs several times daily. Both options keep the journey entirely within the Cyclades.

Getting there by air

Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Andros has no airport either. The ferry via Tinos is considerably more practical than flying for this short Cyclades connection.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Andros to Tinos and then connect to Syros from there. It is the most frequent and practical approach and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. If the direct weekly Andros to Syros service aligns with your dates, take it. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional Blue Star ferry takes your vehicle directly between the islands.
