Getting from Antikythera to Crete

If you are heading to Crete from Antikythera you are making one of the most natural connections from the island, to the largest island in Greece lying just to the south. It has ancient Minoan sites, mountain gorges, excellent food and a coastline that stretches for hundreds of kilometres.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Antikythera to Kissamos in western Crete running year-round, taking around 2 hours. It is one of the most practical and direct connections from Antikythera and avoids going through Athens entirely. The service runs several times a week so check the schedule carefully and build your travel dates around the available departures.

Getting there by air

Both Heraklion and Chania have airports with daily connections from Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. The direct ferry to Kissamos in western Crete is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the short crossing time and direct arrival in Crete.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Antikythera to Kissamos in western Crete. At around 2 hours it is one of the shortest and most natural connections from the island and delivers you directly to the western end of Crete. From Kissamos the bus to Chania takes around 1 hour and the bus to Heraklion takes around 3.5 hours. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry takes your vehicle directly to Kissamos.
