Getting from Antikythera to Mykonos

If you are heading to Mykonos from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to the most cosmopolitan island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has a maze of whitewashed lanes above the port, long beaches on the south coast and some of the best beach clubs in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Mykonos. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Getting to Mykonos means taking the ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus, which takes around 9 hours, and then boarding the fast ferry from Piraeus or Rafina to Mykonos. The fast catamaran from Rafina takes around 2 to 2.5 hours and is the most convenient option as Rafina is only 20 minutes from Athens Airport.

Getting there by air

Mykonos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and then fly to Mykonos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Book ahead in July and August as Mykonos flight spaces fill up fast. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Mykonos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Mykonos New Port.
