Getting from Antikythera to Nafplio

If you are heading to Nafplio from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to a neoclassical town on the Argolic Gulf in the Peloponnese, the first capital of modern Greece with the Venetian fortress of Palamidi above it and Mycenae, Epidaurus and Tiryns all within easy reach.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal ferry from Antikythera to Nafplio running a limited number of times a week, connecting the island to the southern Peloponnese coast. From Nafplio it is a straightforward drive or bus ride to most Peloponnese destinations. Check the schedule carefully as this is not a year-round service and frequency is limited.

Getting there by air

Nafplio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Nafplio, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours from Athens via Corinth, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and drive or take the KTEL bus south to Nafplio. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car and the seasonal ferry to Nafplio is running for your dates, it is a direct and enjoyable sea connection that avoids Athens entirely.
