Getting from Antipaxos to Astakos

If you are heading to Astakos from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to a port town on the western coast of central Greece, relatively close in geographic terms. Astakos sits on a quiet bay surrounded by hills and is the departure point for ferries to Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Astakos. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Getting to Astakos means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then driving south to Astakos via Arta and Agrinio, which takes around 2.5 to 3 hours from Igoumenitsa. It is one of the more natural connections from Antipaxos given the geographic proximity on the western Greek coast.

Getting there by air

Astakos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens, though Preveza is closer at around 70 kilometres to the north. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and driving south to Astakos gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and drive south to Astakos via Arta and Agrinio. It is the most direct and practical approach and avoids Athens entirely. If you are traveling with a car this route is straightforward and keeps the journey within western Greece.
