Getting from Antipaxos to Ioannina

If you are heading to Ioannina from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to a city in the mountains of Epirus in northwestern Greece, on the western shore of Lake Pamvotis with the Pindos range behind it and the Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest in the world, an hour away.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry to Ioannina. It is an inland city with no sea connection. Getting there from Antipaxos means taking the sea taxi to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then taking a bus or taxi to Ioannina, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes from Igoumenitsa. This is actually one of the most straightforward connections from Antipaxos given the geographic proximity.

Getting there by air

Ioannina has its own airport with connections from Athens. Antipaxos has no airport either. The nearest airport is Corfu. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens and then Athens to Ioannina gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. The airport is just 4 kilometres from the city centre.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and take a bus or taxi to Ioannina. At around 1 hour 30 minutes from Igoumenitsa it is the most direct and natural connection and avoids Athens entirely. If you are traveling with a car, the Igoumenitsa to Ioannina drive is straightforward and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes via the main road.
