Getting from Antipaxos to Katerini

If you are heading to Katerini from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to a city at the foot of Mount Olympus on the Pierian coast of northern Greece, with the mountain rising steeply behind it and the beaches of the Pieria coast below.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Katerini. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Katerini is a mainland city with no ferry connection. Getting there means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then driving east across northern Greece via the Egnatia motorway and E75 to Katerini, which takes around 4.5 to 5 hours from Igoumenitsa. This avoids Athens entirely and is a direct route across northern Greece.

Getting there by air

Katerini has no airport. The nearest airport is Thessaloniki, around 70 kilometres to the north. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Thessaloniki, then taking the KTEL bus or driving south to Katerini, which takes around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and fly to Thessaloniki, then take the KTEL bus or drive south to Katerini. It avoids Athens entirely and is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, ferry to Igoumenitsa and drive east via the Egnatia motorway to Katerini.
