Getting from Arki to Oinousses

If you are heading to Oinousses from Arki you are making your way from one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Dodecanese to a small cluster of islands just off the northeastern coast of Chios in the northeastern Aegean, relatively close in regional terms. It has a naval tradition that produced a disproportionate share of Greece's great shipping dynasties and almost no tourist infrastructure.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Arki to Oinousses. Oinousses is accessible only via Chios, with a daily local ferry from Chios main port taking around 1 hour. Arki is connected to Patmos, Leros, Lipsi, Kalymnos and occasionally Rhodes and Samos, with services running a limited number of times per week. The most practical sea approach is to take the ferry from Arki to Samos and then connect to Chios, followed by the local ferry across to Oinousses.

Getting there by air

Oinousses has no airport. The nearest airport is Chios. Arki has no airport either. Taking the local ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then Athens to Chios, followed by the local ferry to Oinousses taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Arki to Leros, fly to Athens and then fly to Chios and take the local ferry across to Oinousses. Check the ferry schedule from Arki carefully before booking your flights as services run only a limited number of times per week. Check the daily ferry schedule from Chios before booking your flights and plan your Chios arrival around the afternoon departure. Give yourself at least two nights on Oinousses and bring everything you need with you.
