Getting from Arki to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Arki you are making your way from one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Dodecanese to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Arki to Poros. Arki is connected to Patmos, Leros, Lipsi, Kalymnos and occasionally Rhodes and Samos, with services running a limited number of times per week. Getting to Poros means taking the ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Arki has no airport either. Taking the local ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Arki to Leros, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. Check the ferry schedule from Arki carefully before booking your flights as services run only a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Arki through the Dodecanese network to Piraeus and drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast, then take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
