Getting from Arki to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Arki you are making your way from one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Dodecanese to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Arki to Sifnos. Arki is connected to Patmos, Leros, Lipsi, Kalymnos and occasionally Rhodes and Samos, with services running a limited number of times per week. Getting to Sifnos means taking the ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Arki has no airport either. Taking the local ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Arki to Leros, fly to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. Check the ferry schedule from Arki carefully before booking your flights as services run only a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Arki through the Dodecanese network to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
