Getting from Astypalaia to Andros

If you are heading to Andros from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Astypalaia to Andros running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes that connect Astypalaia with the northern Cyclades. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes many hours with stops along the way. The more practical approach is to take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and then travel to Rafina, around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, for the ferry to Andros taking around 1 to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures in summer.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then taking a taxi to Rafina for the ferry to Andros gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Andros. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city entirely. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus, drive to Rafina and take the ferry across to Andros.
