Getting from Astypalaia to Kimolos

If you are heading to Kimolos from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to a small white island just off the northwestern tip of Milos in the western Cyclades. It has beaches that see a fraction of the crowds found anywhere nearby.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Astypalaia to Kimolos running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes that connect Astypalaia with the western Cyclades. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes several hours with stops along the way. The more practical approach is to take the ferry from Astypalaia to Milos and then the short local ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos, which takes around 20 to 25 minutes and runs daily. Alternatively fly from Astypalaia to Athens and then fly to Milos for the short crossing.

Getting there by air

Kimolos has no airport. The nearest airport is Milos. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then Athens to Milos, followed by the short local ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and then fly to Milos and take the short local ferry across to Kimolos. It is the most practical approach. If you prefer to travel by sea, check whether the seasonal direct ferry from Astypalaia aligns with your dates. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Milos ferry, then cross to Kimolos from Pollonia on the local ferry.
