Getting from Astypalaia to Tinos

If you are heading to Tinos from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to an island in the central Cyclades, relatively close in geographic terms. It has the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Astypalaia to Tinos running in summer on the wider Blue Star and Seajets routes that connect Astypalaia with the northern Cyclades. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes several hours with stops along the way. The more practical approach is to take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and then the ferry from Rafina to Tinos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours. Rafina is around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport making it a convenient connection without crossing the city to Piraeus.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos, followed by the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos taking around 30 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city entirely. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the port.
