Getting from Athens to Antipaxos

If you are heading to Antipaxos from Athens you are going to one of the most beautiful small islands in the Ionian and one of the least accessible. Antipaxos sits just 3 nautical miles south of Paxos, a tiny island of vineyards and olive trees with beaches of a quality that would be famous if they were anywhere more reachable. Voutoumi and Vrika are among the finest beaches in Greece, with turquoise water and white sand in a setting of complete calm. The island has a handful of permanent residents, almost no tourist infrastructure and no scheduled ferry service of its own. You reach it from Paxos and nowhere else.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Athens to Antipaxos. The island is accessible only by sea taxi or small boat from Gaios on Paxos, with the crossing taking around 15 minutes. Getting to Paxos from Athens means either flying to Corfu and taking the ferry across, which takes around 1 hour, or driving to Igoumenitsa and taking the daily ferry to Gaios, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Antipaxos has no airport. The nearest airport is Corfu, which has daily connections from Athens taking around 50 minutes. From Corfu the ferry to Paxos takes around 1 hour and from Paxos the sea taxi to Antipaxos takes 15 minutes. Total travel time via Corfu is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Fly to Corfu and take the ferry across to Paxos, then the sea taxi to Antipaxos. It is the fastest overall approach. If you are travelling with a car, drive to Igoumenitsa and take the ferry to Paxos from there. Either way, Antipaxos is most rewarding as a day trip or overnight from Paxos rather than a standalone destination, as facilities on the island are almost nonexistent.
