Getting from Chios to Psara
If you are heading to Psara from Chios you are making the most natural connection from the island, to a small rocky island just off the northwestern coast of Chios in the same part of the northeastern Aegean. It has one of the most moving histories in Greece, almost entirely destroyed by the Ottoman fleet in 1824 and never fully recovered.
Take the ferry
There is a direct daily local ferry from Chios main port to Psara taking around 3 hours. It is the only connection between the two and runs throughout the year, with the schedule varying by season. The service is operated by the local ferry that serves the island and tickets can be bought at the port. No advance booking is required or available for most departures though it is worth checking the schedule before traveling as times vary considerably by season.
Getting there by air
Psara has no airport. The nearest airport is Chios. The direct local ferry is the only realistic option for this connection and at around 3 hours it is a straightforward crossing from Chios.
Your best option
Take the direct local ferry from Chios main port to Psara. Check the schedule carefully before traveling as departure times vary by season and the service runs less frequently in winter. Give yourself at least two nights on Psara and bring everything you need with you as facilities on the island are limited. The afternoon return to Chios gives you a full day on the island which is enough to see it properly.
