Getting from Santorini to Agistri

Agistri is the smallest of the Saronic islands and one of the most quietly appealing places within easy reach of Athens. It is almost entirely covered in pine forest that reaches the shoreline in places, giving it a lush green character that feels completely different from the bare rock of the Cyclades. The beaches are good, the water is clear and the island has stayed low-key enough that its visitors are mostly Athenians who have been coming for years rather than international tourists who have just discovered it. It is the kind of island you go to in order to do very little, very well.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Santorini to Agistri. The connection goes via Piraeus. Take the ferry from Santorini to Piraeus, which takes around 5 to 8 hours depending on the vessel, and then connect onto the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Agistri. The Piraeus to Agistri crossing takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes with up to 70 crossings per week in summer. Flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry is the faster overall approach.

What about flying?

Agistri has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Santorini to Athens and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Agistri gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus. With dozens of daily crossings in summer the connection is one of the most effortless in Greece and you rarely need to book in advance except on summer weekends.
