Getting from Santorini to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Santorini you are going to one of the most beautiful small towns on the Greek mainland. Parga sits on the Epirus coast facing the Ionian Sea, a Venetian-built harbour town of pastel houses climbing a hillside above a bay dotted with small islands. The castle above the town, a Venetian fortress, gives it its dramatic silhouette. The beaches around it, particularly Valtos and Lichnos, are outstanding. The town itself is intimate and genuinely charming, with good tavernas along the waterfront and a relaxed atmosphere that draws people back year after year. The surrounding region of Epirus is wild and beautiful, with the ancient Oracle of Dodona and the Acheron River nearby.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry connection to Parga. It is a mainland coastal town with no island ferry service. Getting there from Santorini means flying.

What about flying?

Parga has no airport. The closest airports are Preveza (Aktion Airport) around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina around 103 kilometres northeast. The fastest overall route from Santorini is to fly to Athens and then take the domestic flight to Preveza, followed by a taxi or bus to Parga taking around 1 hour. Ioannina is also an option with a 1.5 hour drive to Parga from there. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and connect to Preveza. The drive from Preveza Airport to Parga takes around 1 hour and the scenery along the Epirus coast on the way in is a good introduction to the region. Total travel time from Santorini is around 5 to 6 hours.
