Getting from Santorini to Porto Heli
Porto Heli sits at the southern tip of the Argolic Gulf in the Peloponnese and has built a quiet reputation as one of the most attractive coastal destinations on the Greek mainland. The harbour is sheltered and clear, the marina draws sailing boats from across the Mediterranean and the surrounding coastline has some excellent beaches that see a fraction of the crowds you would find on the islands. Spetses is visible across the water and reachable by local boat in minutes. The whole area has a relaxed, prosperous atmosphere that attracts Greeks who want somewhere beautiful without the effort of an island.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Santorini to Porto Heli. The connection goes via Piraeus. Take the ferry from Santorini to Piraeus, which takes around 5 to 8 hours depending on the vessel, and then connect onto the Saronic hydrofoil or ferry from Piraeus to Porto Heli, which takes around 2 hours with 4 to 5 daily departures. Total journey time by this route is significant and flying is the faster approach for most people.
What about flying?
Porto Heli has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Alternatively the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Porto Heli is a pleasant approach if you have the time.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and drive to Porto Heli, or fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus if you prefer to arrive by sea. The drive from Athens through the Peloponnese takes around 2.5 hours and gives you flexibility once you arrive.
