Getting from Spetses to Aegina
If you are heading to Aegina from Spetses you are making your way from one car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the closest major island to Athens, in the same gulf. It has the best preserved ancient Greek temple in the country at Afaia, a thriving pistachio industry and a waterfront that fills up with Athenians every weekend.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Spetses to Aegina running as part of the Saronic island circuit, taking around 2 to 2.5 hours via Hydra and Poros. It is a natural connection within the same island group and keeps the journey entirely by sea without going through Athens or Piraeus. Alternatively take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Aegina ferry, which takes around 40 minutes on the fast boat and runs over 40 times daily in summer.
Getting there by air
Aegina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is also Athens. The direct Saronic ferry connection is considerably more practical than flying for this within-Saronic Gulf connection. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the direct Saronic ferry from Spetses to Aegina via Hydra and Poros. It keeps the journey entirely within the Saronic Gulf and avoids Athens and Piraeus entirely. Check the schedule before traveling as departure times vary by season. Both Spetses and Aegina are easily reached from Athens making this one of the most natural island hops in the Saronic Gulf.
