Getting from Spetses to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Spetses to Piraeus running up to 10 times daily, taking around 2 to 3.5 hours. It is one of the most well served Saronic connections and runs year-round making it one of the most reliable ferry routes in Greece. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens. High-speed vessels cover the route in around 2 hours while the conventional ferry takes closer to 3.5 hours.

Getting there by air

Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International. The direct ferry to Piraeus is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the frequency and convenience of the Saronic ferry service and the metro connection from Piraeus to central Athens.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and take the metro to central Athens. With up to 10 daily departures you never need to book far in advance. Note that Spetses is car-free so all passengers cross as foot passengers on the ferry. If you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive to Athens directly, which takes around 2.5 to 3 hours via Corinth and avoids Piraeus entirely if you are heading to the city centre or the northern suburbs.
