Getting from Spetses to Lavrio

If you are heading to Lavrio from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the third ferry port serving Athens, on the southeastern tip of Attica around 30 minutes from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Lavrio. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then driving or taking a taxi to Lavrio, around 45 minutes from Piraeus or around 20 to 30 minutes from Athens Airport. Alternatively take the metro from Piraeus to Athens Airport and then a taxi to Lavrio.

Getting there by air

Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 30 kilometres to the northwest. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and then making your way to Lavrio gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and make your way to Lavrio by taxi. If you are heading to Kea or Kythnos from Lavrio, ferries to both islands run frequently throughout the day in summer. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive directly to Lavrio, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours and avoids Piraeus entirely.
