Getting from Spetses to Alonissos

If you are heading to Alonissos from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the most remote of the Sporades group, in the northern Aegean. It has a densely forested coastline, a beautifully preserved old village above the port and a marine park that protects the largest colony of Mediterranean monk seals in Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Alonissos. The two islands are in different island groups with no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then either flying from Athens to Skiathos and taking the ferry from Skiathos to Alonissos, which takes around 1 to 2 hours, or driving to Volos or Mantoudi for the direct ferry to Alonissos. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Alonissos.

Getting there by air

Alonissos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with connections from Athens. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, flying from Athens to Skiathos and then taking the ferry from Skiathos to Alonissos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Skiathos, then take the ferry across to Alonissos. It is the most practical approach. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive to Volos or Mantoudi for the direct ferry to Alonissos, which avoids Piraeus entirely.
