Getting from Spetses to Andros
If you are heading to Andros from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Attica. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Andros. Andros is served primarily from Rafina on the northeastern Attica coast. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then making your way to Rafina for the ferry to Andros, which runs up to 11 times daily in summer and takes around 1 to 2 hours. Rafina is around 45 minutes from Piraeus by taxi or around 20 minutes from Athens Airport.
Getting there by air
Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is also Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and then making your way to Rafina for the ferry to Andros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and make your way to Rafina for the ferry across to Andros. Rafina avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely for the Andros leg and with up to 11 daily departures in summer it is a straightforward connection. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive directly to Rafina for the ferry across to Andros, which avoids Piraeus entirely and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.
