Getting from Spetses to Evia
If you are heading to Evia from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and within easy reach of Athens. It has varied landscapes from forested mountains in the north to sandy beaches in the south.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Evia. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then either crossing to Evia via the bridge at Halkida, around 90 kilometres from central Athens, or taking the short ferry from Rafina to Marmari in southern Evia, which takes around 1 hour and runs several times daily. Rafina is just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport making it a particularly convenient connection.
Getting there by air
Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is also Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and then crossing to Evia gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and cross to Evia via the short ferry from Rafina to Marmari or the bridge at Halkida. The Rafina to Marmari ferry is particularly convenient as Rafina sits just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive to whichever part of Evia suits your plans, crossing at Halkida or taking the Rafina to Marmari ferry.
