Getting from Spetses to Patras

If you are heading to Patras from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to the third largest city in Greece on the southern shore of the Gulf of Corinth, the main gateway to the Ionian islands and western Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Patras. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus, which runs up to 10 times daily and takes around 2 to 3.5 hours, and then taking the KTEL bus or driving west to Patras, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours from Athens via the E65 motorway.

Getting there by air

Patras has a small seasonal airport at Araxos, around 40 kilometres from the city, operating limited flights from May to October only. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and then taking the KTEL bus or driving west to Patras gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Piraeus and take the KTEL bus west to Patras. The bus from Athens Kifissos terminal runs frequently and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. From Patras you have ferry connections to the Ionian islands and international connections to Italy. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are traveling with a car it would be at the mainland port of Kosta, from where you can drive west to Patras via Corinth, which avoids Piraeus entirely and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.
