Getting from Telendos to Tilos
If you are heading to Tilos from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to a volcanic island in the southern part of the same group. It is the first island in the Mediterranean to run entirely on renewable energy with good walking trails and a wild coastline.
Take the ferry
There is a natural ferry connection from Telendos to Tilos via the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through Kos to Tilos, which takes around 2 to 3 hours in total and runs several times a week. This keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese without going through Athens or Piraeus. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days vary by season.
Getting there by air
Tilos has no airport. The nearest airports are Rhodes and Kos. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. Taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties, flying from Kalymnos or Kos to Athens and then taking the ferry back to Tilos is considerably less practical than the direct ferry connection within the Dodecanese. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south through the Dodecanese to Tilos. It keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days vary by season. The two islands make a natural pairing given their shared commitment to sustainable living and a visit to both in the same trip is well worth planning.
