Getting from Thassos to Tinos

If you are heading to Tinos from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Tinos. Getting there means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then either flying from Kavala to Athens and taking the ferry from Rafina to Tinos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours, or driving to Rafina via the E75 motorway, which takes around 5.5 to 6.5 hours from Kavala. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, flying from Kavala to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos, followed by the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos taking around 20 to 35 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and fly from Kavala to Athens, then take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and drive to Piraeus via the E75 motorway for the conventional Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the port.
