Getting from Thessaloniki to Andros

If you are heading to Andros from Thessaloniki you are making your way from the second largest city in Greece to the northernmost island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has neoclassical mansions, an art museum of genuinely international quality and a network of old footpaths connecting the villages.

Getting there by air

Andros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Thessaloniki has an international airport with daily connections to Athens. Flying from Thessaloniki to Athens and then taking a taxi to Rafina, around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, for the ferry to Andros taking around 1 to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures in summer, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. Rafina is the main port for Andros and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely.

Take the train, bus or drive

Thessaloniki is connected to Athens by train, taking around 4 to 5 hours, and by KTEL bus, taking around 5 to 6 hours. From Athens the drive or taxi to Rafina takes around 25 minutes from Athens Airport. The drive from Thessaloniki to Rafina takes around 6 to 7 hours via the E75 motorway and is the most practical option for travelers with a car.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Thessaloniki to Andros. Getting there means traveling to Athens and then taking the ferry from Rafina to Andros.

Your best option

Fly from Thessaloniki to Athens and take a taxi to Rafina for the ferry across to Andros. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city to Piraeus entirely. It is the most practical approach at around 4 to 5 hours total. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Thessaloniki to Rafina via the E75 motorway and take the ferry across to Andros.
