Getting from Tinos to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to the most eastern of the same island group, a long journey across the full width of the Cyclades. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Tinos to Amorgos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus, which runs daily and takes around 2.5 to 4.5 hours, and then boarding the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours. Alternatively take the ferry from Tinos south through the Cyclades via Mykonos, Naxos and Paros to Amorgos, though this involves multiple connections and takes considerably longer. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation as the road between them takes around 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Taking the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus and boarding the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry gives a total journey time of around 8 to 14 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry. It is the most practical approach. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle directly to the island.
