Getting from Tinos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Tinos to Piraeus running daily, taking around 2.5 to 4.5 hours depending on the vessel. Blue Star Ferries runs the conventional crossing taking around 4.5 hours and Seajets runs the high speed service taking around 2.5 hours. Alternatively take the direct ferry from Tinos to Rafina, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours, with Rafina sitting just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport and well connected to the city by taxi or bus.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Taking the short ferry from Tinos to Mykonos and flying from Mykonos to Athens takes around 35 to 40 minutes in the air. Total journey time is around 2 to 3 hours but adds the cost and time of the Mykonos flight, making the direct ferry to Piraeus or Rafina more practical for most travelers.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Tinos to Rafina. At around 2 hours it is the fastest sea connection to the Athens area and arrives just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport, avoiding Piraeus and central Athens entirely. If you need to get to central Athens or Piraeus specifically, take the direct ferry to Piraeus instead. If you are traveling with a car the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to either port.
