Getting from Tinos to Kythnos

If you are heading to Kythnos from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to an island in the western Cyclades, in the same island group. It has over 60 beaches and a medieval village at Driopida that hardly anyone outside Greece knows about.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Tinos to Kythnos. Kythnos is served primarily from Lavrio on the southeastern Attica coast. Getting there means taking the ferry from Tinos to Rafina, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours, and then driving or taking a taxi south to Lavrio, which takes around 30 to 40 minutes, for the ferry to Kythnos taking around 1 hour 10 minutes and running up to 5 times daily in summer. This avoids Piraeus and central Athens entirely.

Getting there by air

Kythnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Taking the ferry from Tinos to Rafina, driving south to Lavrio and taking the ferry to Kythnos gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Tinos to Rafina and drive or take a taxi south to Lavrio for the ferry across to Kythnos. At around 4 to 5 hours total it avoids Athens and Piraeus entirely and is the most natural and direct approach. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Lavrio takes your vehicle directly to Kythnos port.
