Getting from Tinos to Naxos

If you are heading to Naxos from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to the largest island in the same group, to the south. It has a medieval Venetian town above the port, long sandy beaches on the west coast and a mountainous interior of marble villages.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Tinos to Naxos running several times daily in summer, taking around 2 to 3 hours via Mykonos and Paros. It is one of the most natural connections in the Cyclades and keeps the journey entirely within the island group without going through Athens or Piraeus. The service connects Tinos southward through the central Cyclades making it a straightforward and enjoyable island hop. Alternatively take the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus and then the Piraeus to Naxos ferry, though going through Piraeus adds considerably more time and is far less practical for this within-Cyclades connection.

Getting there by air

Naxos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. The direct ferry connection is the most practical and enjoyable approach for this island hop within the same island group. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Tinos south through the Cyclades to Naxos. It is the most natural and direct connection and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. Check the schedule before traveling as departure times vary by season. The arrival by sea with the Portara temple doorframe visible from the water is one of the great Cycladic arrivals. If you are traveling with a car the conventional ferry takes your vehicle directly to Naxos Town port.
