Getting from Tinos to Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini from Tinos you are making your way from the most venerated pilgrimage island in the Cyclades to the most iconic island in the same group, to the south. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiri preserved under volcanic ash.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Tinos to Santorini. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Tinos south through the Cyclades via Mykonos, Paros and Naxos to Santorini, with several daily connections in summer, which takes around 4 to 6 hours depending on which route and vessel you take. This keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens and Piraeus entirely. Alternatively take the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus and then the Piraeus to Santorini ferry.

Getting there by air

Santorini has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Taking the short ferry from Tinos to Mykonos and flying from Mykonos to Athens and then Athens to Santorini takes around 45 to 55 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Tinos south through the Cyclades to Santorini. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedules carefully before booking as connections vary by season. The arrival into the caldera by sea is one of the great island arrivals in Greece and well worth the journey time. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Tinos to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Athinios port.
