Getting from Zakynthos to Kimolos
If you are heading to Kimolos from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to a small white island just off the northwestern tip of Milos in the western Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has beaches that see a fraction of the crowds found anywhere nearby.
Getting there by air
Kimolos has no airport. The nearest airport is Milos. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then Athens to Milos, followed by the short local ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos taking around 20 to 25 minutes and running daily, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Kimolos. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Aegean island. Getting there by road and sea means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes, and then driving to Piraeus for the Piraeus to Milos ferry, followed by the short crossing to Kimolos from Pollonia. The total journey by road and sea takes the better part of two days.
Your best option
Fly from Zakynthos to Athens and then fly to Milos, then take the short local ferry across to Kimolos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and drive to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Milos ferry, then cross to Kimolos from Pollonia on the local ferry.
